About

I’ve been working in media and communications for over 15 years. I am self-taught and highly proficient with photography, videography and editing with programs like Adobe Creative Suite, and am extremely adept in picking up new skills and adapting to fast-changing needs. I thrive in challenging work environments and enjoy working on multiple projects simultaneously. I worked as a freelance journalist for six years, and have almost a decade in nonprofit and United Nations/NGO experience supporting global and regional humanitarian projects.

My work and personal passions have taken me to over 40 countries on four continents. I have a working proficiency in Spanish and a basic understanding of French, both of which I am actively improving in my spare time. I previously studied Arabic in university and at an adult higher education center.

I possess a joint Master of Arts from the prestigious Erasmus Mundus program in Journalism, Media and Globalization, having studied at Aarhus University and the Danish School of Media and Journalism (DMJX) in Denmark and Swansea University in the United Kingdom. My concentration was in War and Conflict Reporting, which involved practical courses on covering conflict zones and the impacts of digital technologies in reporting. I wrote my dissertation on the construction of sexual violence images in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts cum laude in International Studies with a focus in Globalization and a minor in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW), along with credits from Western Carolina University.

When I’m not creating multimedia projects, studying languages, or planning my next trip, I can usually be found at a baseball or hockey game or on a hike with my two dogs.
